Preparing the Revision
Request two despined copies of the current edition from your editor. These will be used to prepare the new edition. You should mount each side of the printed sheet on a separate piece of 8½x11 plain white paper. For light updates, plainly print your changes in the margins on either side. Material being deleted should be X'ed on the page.
For sections heavily updated, you should not "cram" the new material into the margins but supply as "insert" manuscript keyed to the tearsheet as to where it should go. Always supply new manuscript copy in electronic form with an accompanying laser proof.
Check with you editor about the availability of you original graphics file from your prior edition. If they are available, you need only supply the new line art and photos. If the previous edition has gone out of print or was produced before digital files were stored, you will need to resubmit the entire art program for electronic scanning.
In either case,if chapters or figures were "reordered", you will need to supply a "roadmap" indicating the old figure/page number and the current figure number in the new edition.
Of course, if you new edition is very heavily updated or for the most part new, follow the instructions in the section titled Submitting New Manuscripts.
While preparing your manuscript, pay special attention to the accuracy of cross-references, figure numbers, table numbers, and other items numbered in sequence.
